Principal: Housing corporation De Sleutels, Leiden
The purpose of the architectural guidelines is to ensure that future renovations and new developments in the area are optimally tailored to the character of the Garden city area in respect of urban planning attributes, architectural implementation, material, colour and detail. In this document, the requirements for each zone in the area have been concisely summarised. It is not a directive to, for example, add retro new developments: within the spectrum and the structure of the area, maximum potential should remain for architectural interpretation and modernisation of living conditions. They are meant to inspire and encourage designers, at the same time creating clear parameters on the basis of which future plans can be assessed.
In the coming years, the dominant feature of the Garden city area will be the transformation, which involves the renovation of a major part of the area by Van Schagen architects. Parts of Seringenstraat, Hyacinthenstraat and Dahliastraat will be demolished/newly developed. The new housing will be designed by HP architects.
After the drawing up of these architectural guidelines, Paul Meurs was appointed as supervisor by housing corporation De Sleutels, with the objective of ensuring a high measure of image quality.
